Here at Glosters, we are absolutely obsessed with mugs. Did you know that before the current pottery workshop and gift shop in Porthmadog opened, Glosters started out with a coffee shop? The ground floor of the building we lived in at the time was a retail space, so the space became a successful coffee shop with Tom making mugs out the back, which we then sold in store.
Fast forward a decade and now Glosters has huge workshops and teams of ceramists making our stunning handmade mugs! The mugs are undoubtedly still one of our most popular products, and we love making new designs for our seasonal Autumn, Summer, Valentine's and Christmas drops.
What makes our mugs so special? These handmade mugs have a unique shape that is an absolute delight to hold, curving beautifully so you can hold the mug and feel the warmth of your favourite beverage, whether its tea or coffee or even a cheeky cocktail.
All of the handmade mugs are made using high quality stoneware clay from our local supplier in Stoke-on-Trent, which is known for its strtength and durability. The materials and glazes ensure the final product is of course foodsafe, as well as microwave- and dishwasher-safe.
We do however recommend you hand wash your ceramic mugs to get the best life from them, and folllow our caring for your pottery guide.
The exact number of different colours and designs of the mugs varies depending on the season, however we do have our core range of nine Glosters Glazes which you can shop.

These glosters glazes are also found across our collection of pottery including on our match pots, soup bowls, and many other styles.
Every single mug is unique, due to the handmade nature of the pieces, meaning that their designs can vary from those pictured. The Signature Glosters drippy glaze, for example, is a different length on every mug, as the 'drips' are a stop layer of glaze painted over the colour of the mug. Although we try to glaze the same amount of 'drip' on each mug, the varying heat within the hot and cool spots of the kiln creates differences in the glaze as the mugs firing in the hotter spots woll have more 'drip' in the final product. Additionally, the darker colours don't tend to 'drip' as much as the lighter colours. We love the variation, and knowing that every single mug out there is one-of-a-kind!
The handmade mugs are also available in three different sizes: Mug, Muglet®, and Mugster®. The Mug is our largest size coffee cups that hold approximately 470ml, the Muglet® holds around 250ml, while the Mugster® holds 90ml (perfect for espresso!).
